The national movement began a few years ago to support local businesses that create jobs. With several small business owners by his side, Mayor Brown told reporters in Spot Coffee on Hertel Avenue everybody wins by shopping with small businesses.
"You win because you don't have the hassle of shopping at the mall...the person that you're shopping for wins because they get more thoughtful, more heartfelt gifts that probably are more meaningful, and the community wins because that money that you spend in small businesses in the community go back into the community," said Brown.
Brown says for every $100 spent at a small business, $68 come back to the community. At large retailers, he says, just $43 comes back.
So get out there during this shopping season and buy local!
