Let me start by wishing you a Happy New Year! Now let's talk about how that can actually become a reality for you. I recently shared this information with a colleague who has reached the breaking point as it relates to career advancement. Essentially, my colleague feels like he doesn't know what his purpose is and he wants a more fulfilling life. Here's some thoughts I shared with him that may be of help along your journey also:
Ask yourself the following three questions:
- What is your purpose?
- What do you want?
- What are you willing to do to get it?
When I speak of purpose, I'm asking, what is it that you are here for? Not in your current job or whatever city your in, but what is it that you've been called to do. What is your reason for existence, what are you passionate about doing or achieving? What causes you to be irked or happy? What is the problem that you were specifically designed for to solve?
If you can reflect on your life and begin to answer those questions, then you can have some more direction to combat that dead end feeling.
Knowing your purpose is about more than just a job or a title, it's about fundamentally understanding that you have been designed to accomplish something wonderful in this earth with the unique gifts and talents that have been bestowed upon you.
Secondly, determine what it is that you really want. What do you want for real? Nobody can tell you that, because only you know. If you can verbalize it, then you can realize it.
Thirdly, what are you willing to do? Clearly, it's not that you can't focus, otherwise you wouldn't have gotten to where you are now. You need to know what it's worth to you to really change what's happening for you. If whatever you're doing is not currently yielding the results you want, then what are you going to do differently?
Think on these things...and chart a new course for yourself.
Until next time...we'll see you where the jobs are!
